General Information
Description
The
TabletWorks-Cx package allows WinTab-compliant applications to run without the
need for any low-level drivers. This allows the application to be run on a
Windows thin-client system, such as Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services,
when used with COM Port redirection software, such as that included with Citrix
MetaFrame.

Tested Configurations
The
following system configurations have been verified and documented. Other
configurations that meet the requirement described in the 'Basic System
Requirements' section may also operate correctly.
- Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services and Citrix
MetaFrame
Basic System
Requirements
- A WinTab compliant application running on one of the
following operating systems
- Windows 2000 (Professional,
Server, Advanced Server)
- Windows NT 4.0 (SP4 or
greater)
- Windows 9x/Me
- A supported tablet connected to one of the following
ports
- local COM1 serial port
- COM1 redirected from another
serial port using COM Port redirection software
Installation Information
Installing
TabletWorks-Cx on Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services and Citrix
MetaFrame
- Logon to the Citrix Server with Administrator rights.
- Open the Windows Control Panel
(Start->Settings->Control Panel).
- Open 'Add/Remove Programs'.
- Click the 'Add New Programs' icon on the left side of
the window.
- If installing from a CD or floppy, complete the
following instructions.
- Click the 'CD or Floppy'
button.
- Insert the CD or Floppy and
click the 'Next' button.
- If Windows is unable to find
the TabletWorks-Cx installation file, click the 'Browse' button, then
locate and open the installation file.
- Click the 'Finish' button to
begin the TabletWorks-Cx installation.
- If installing from a downloaded installation file,
complete the following instructions.
- Download the latest
TabletWorks-Cx installation file from the GTCO CalComp Web site to a
temporary directory. Note the location of the downloaded file for future
reference.
- Click the 'CD or Floppy'
button.
- Click the 'Next' button.
- Click the 'Browse' button,
then locate and open the downloaded installation file.
- Click the 'Finish' button to
begin the TabletWorks-Cx installation.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
TabletWorks-Cx installation.
- Complete the instructions in the 'Configuring a Client
Tablet using Citrix MetaFrame' for each client that will be using the
TabletWorks-Cx.
Configuring a Client
Tablet using Citrix MetaFrame
- On the client machine, logon to the Citrix
Server desktop using the client's user name and password.
- From the Citrix Server desktop window, Run the
WinTab Tablet Selector (Start->Programs->GTCO
CalComp->TabletWorks-Cx->WinTab Tablet Selector) and select the
appropriate tablet.
- Also from the Citrix Server desktop window, open
a Command Prompt window (Start->Programs->Accessories->Command
Prompt).
- At the command prompt, run the command 'net use COM1:
\\Client\COMx:'
where x is the COM Port on the client machine that the tablet is connected
to.
Removing TabletWorks-Cx
- Open the Windows Control Panel
(Start->Settings->Control Panel).
- Open 'Add/Remove Programs.'
- Select 'TabletWorks-Cx' from the list of installed
programs.
- Click the 'Remove' button.
- Click the 'Yes' button to confirm that you want to
remove TabletWorks-Cx.
- If the WinTab Tablet Selector was made a published
application, remove it from the list of published applications and remove
any client ICA connections to it.
Troubleshooting Information
This section contains
information on troubleshooting an installation that is not operating correctly.
Troubleshooting
TabletWorks-Cx on Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services and Citrix
MetaFrame
- Verify the correct tablet is configured.
- Logon to the Citrix Server
desktop as the desired user.
- From the Citrix Server desktop
window, Run theWinTabTablet
Selector(Start->Programs->GTCOCalComp->TabletWorks-Cx->WinTab
Tablet Selector) and verify that the correct tablet is selected.
- Verify the COM Port redirection is configured properly.
- Logon to the Citrix Server
desktop as the desired user.
- From the Citrix Server desktop
window, open a Command Prompt window
(Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt).
- At the command prompt, run the
command 'net use'
and verify that the local COM1 is configured correctly for the remote COM
Port. The remote COM Port should be the COM Port that the tablet is
physically connected to.
- Verify that another WinTab application is not currently
running. Only one WinTab application can be run at a time.
- Complete the steps described in the 'Verifying Hardware
Configuration' section.
- Complete the steps described in the 'Using a Terminal
Program to Verify Operation' section by running the terminal program on
the machine that the tablet is connected to and configuring the port that
the tablet is physically connected to.
- Complete the steps described in the 'Using a Terminal
Program to Verify Operation' section by running HyperTerminal in a Citrix
Server desktop window on the client machine and configuring the COM1 port.
Verifying Hardware
Configuration
- Turn the tablet off.
- Using the documentation supplied with the tablet,
verify that the tablet is connected to the local serial port correctly and
note which serial port it is connected to.
- Turn the tablet on.
- Using the documentation supplied with the
tablet, verify a supported tablet is configured for factory settings (S01
SuperSet Code, A01 AccuSet Code) or an unsupported tablet is configured to
operate as the tablet selected in the WinTab Tablet Selector application.
Note the COM Port settings (baud rate, parity, ...) future reference.
Using a Terminal Program
to Verify Operation
- Configure a terminal program, such as Windows
HyperTerminal, to comunicate directly with the desired COM Port with the
COM Port settings (baud rate, parity, ...) that match the tablet.
- If using a GTCO tablet, try the following steps
to send and receive data.
- Press CTRL-A (press the Ctrl
key and A key at the same time) and a '>' prompt should appear.
- At the '>' prompt, type VR
and press ENTER and the tablet should send back a tablet ID string.
- Press ESC to go into data
mode, put the cursor on the tablet and binary data should appear.
- If using another tablet, try to send data to and
from the tablet. Consult the tablet's User Manual for command set
information.
