Diagnosing Button Assignment Issues in AutoCAD

Check the following:
1.) All buttons other than zero for the Calcomp and
1 for Summa graphics should be set for none in the
   Tabletworks Control Panel

2.) Load the original MNU file that came with your
   version or AutoCAD
a.) Type MENU at the command prompt
b.) change the extensions to .MNU
   c.) choose Acad.MNU
**if you have customized this menu and saved those changes under the same name you will need to rename the customized Acad.mnu file. Then copy the Acad.MNU file off of your AutoCAD installation diskettes or CD onto your hard drive

***if running ACAD LT 95/97 you will not have the MENU command.  To load the original menu you will need to make sure the original non-customized ACLT.MNU file is in the Acad LT 95/97 directory and restart Acad LT 95/97.

Test buttons 1 through 9. They should execute the default commands that are programmed in the Acad.MNU file.

If your buttons respond to the default commands but do no respond when loading a customized menu file the error is in the programming for the custom commands in the customized menu.

The following test will determine if each button is physically working and that your Acad menu has been compiled correctly.

1.) Open your Acad.MNU file in a text editor(Notepad/Write)

2.) Go to File and Choose SaveAS

3.) Save the file as TEST.MNU

4.) Locate the section titled
   ***Buttons1

5.) Replace the characters listed below the section
   ***Buttons1 with the following numbers

(For Calcomp)
***Buttons1
replace ;     with 1
replace $p0=* with 2
replace ^c^c  with 3
replace ^B    with 4
replace ^O    with 5
replace ^G    with 6
replace ^D    with 7
replace ^E    with 8
replace ^T    with 9

(For Summagraphics)
***Buttons1
replace ;     with 2
replace $p0=* with 3
replace ^c^c  with 4
replace ^B    with 5
replace ^O    with 6
replace ^G    with 7
replace ^D    with 8
replace ^E    with 9

6.) Exit and save your changes

7.) Open Acad

8.) Type MENU at the command line

9.) Change your extension to MNU

10.) Choose the Test.MNU

Now when you press a button on your puck the corresponding button # should appear on the command prompt.  This confirms that each button is working properly.

In order to get your digitizer buttons to perform AutoCAD commands you must first have the correct Autolisp syntax added to your buttons sections in your menu file.

If you are interested in customizing your buttons there are several references available through Autodesk. Check on
Autodesk's website www.autodesk.com and perform a search for Digitizer.  This will pull up several helpful files for
programing your buttons.  You can also try Technical Solutions and FAQ's. Look at note #5049 Assigning Mouse Buttons.

You may also want to reference the Customization section of your Acad manual.
