Removing the Windows 3.x SummaSoft drivers

These steps will remove the SummaSoft Windows 3.x drivers from the computer. This will disable all tablet functionality.

A.  Automatically removing the SummaSoft driver.

    1.  Start Windows 3.x.

    2.  Insert the Summagraphics driver diskette into your computer.

    3.  In the Program Manager window type ALT-F, R(un), A:\SETUP (or B:\SETUP), and then press Enter.

    4.  Select Remove SummaSoft drivers from the Select Components window.

    5.  This process will remove any WINDOWS drivers previously installed.

    6.  At the end of the removal procedure, the program will then allow the choice of letting SETUP reboot your system
         for you, or allowing you to perform the reboot manually.

    7.  The SummaSoft drivers are now removed.  Keyboard commands or another mouse must be used to navigate
        Windows at this point.

B.  Manually removing the SummaSoft driver.  (Optional)

This step can be used to verify that all drivers were removed using the previous step or as a backup method of removing the drivers in case automatically removing the drivers did not work.

    1.  Boot the computer to a DOS prompt. (C:\>)

    2.  Type CD \WINDOWS [ENTER] to switch to the Windows directory.

    3.  Type EDIT SYSTEM.INI [ENTER] to bring up the SYSTEM.INI file in the blue DOS EDITOR screen.

    4.  Search for the following lines in each section and take the appropriate Action:

        Section &
        Original line                    Action                    New line
        --------------------                 ----------                   -------------------
        [boot]
        mouse.drv=cursor.drv       Change to              mouse.drv=mouse.drv
        drivers=...SUMMA...        Delete "SUMMA"    drivers=......

       [386Enh]
       device=vsertd.386             Delete line

       [drivers]
       SUMMA=wtcyc.drv           Delete line

       [vsertd.386]                      Delete section
       SUMMA=x                       Delete line

    5.  Select the ALT+F(ile) and E(x)it.  Select Y(ES) to SAVE.

    6.  At the DOS prompt, (C:\>), delete the following files by typing these lines:

        del c:\windows\wintab.ini         [ENTER]
        del c:\windows\summagra.grp       [ENTER]
        del c:\windows\system\wintab.dll [ENTER]
        del c:\windows\system\wtcyc.drv  [ENTER]
        del c:\windows\system\wtpen.drv  [ENTER]

        deltree c:\summa [ENTER] + "Y" + [ENTER]
        (This line deletes the entire SUMMA directory.   If during the install a different name was chosen, use that name
        in place of "SUMMA".)

    7.  In order to have mouse control before re-entering Windows, see the section, "Installing or reinstalling a Windows
         mouse driver.

    8.  Start Windows 3.x.

    9.  A "Group File Error" will indicate that the group file, "C:\WINDOWS\SUMMAGRA.GRP" wasn't found.  Select NO
        to not load this group in the future.

   10.  The SummaSoft drivers are now removed.  Keyboard commands or another mouse must be used to navigate
         Windows at this point.

C.  Installing or reinstalling a Windows mouse driver. (Optional)

    1.  If you wish to attach a mouse to your computer after removing the tablet driver, you must reinstall a mouse driver
        as follows:

    2.  From DOS, change to the directory containing your Windows program files (usually C:\WINDOWS). Type SETUP
         to execute the Microsoft Windows Setup Program

        OR

    3.  Execute Setup from Windows by typing ALT-F, R(un), C:\WINDOWS\SETUP.

    4.  In either case, Setup will display the configuration of your computer.  At this point the display will probably
         indicate that the installed mouse is whatever type you had last installed, but this is incorrect; the driver actually
         needs to be reinstalled in order to be properly activated upon Windows startup.  Use the arrow keys to select the
         mouse definition line and press Enter.

    5.  From the list presented, select the mouse driver you wish to install, even if it is the same as is currently
         displayed.

    6.  Press Enter to continue and follow whatever directions Setup gives you.

    7.  Finally, "Accept" the configuration and exit from Setup.

    8.  Before booting up Windows, make sure your mouse is connected to your computer.
