Area Trimming in AutoCAD with Large
Format Tablets
A. What is Area Trimming?
1. There are some reports of
"trimming" on the large format digitizers when
used with AutoCAD 12 and 13 for DOS
and Windows.
The AutoCAD drawing editor will only recognize 35,000
unique points on either axis. With the
default setting
at 1000 LPI (lines per inch), a 48"x36" board
will have about 13-inches on the x-axis and 1-inch on
the y-axis that would not be recognized.
B. If the full area of the board is required to digitize and losing resolution is not an issue, then set the
digitizer
resolution to 500 LPI. Perform the following steps.
1. Click on the CONFIG/EXIT button on the
menu strip of the tablet.
2. Click on BANK A.
3. Configure the following switches:
Switch: 9 = On,
10 = Off, 11 = Off
4. If you want to save these settings
permanently, click on SAVE DEFAULT,2,
or 3 on the tablet menu strip.
5. Click on the CONFIG/EXIT button on the
tablet menu strip to exit.
C. If resolution is an issue when using AutoCAD for DOS, then set
the maximum resolution available automatically
upon starting the application. To accomplish this, perform the
following steps.
1. Add the following line to the ACAD.BAT
file.
a. Switch to
the AutoCAD directory (i.e., CD C:\ACAD).
b. Type
EDIT ACAD.BAT
c. Add one of
the following commands to the end of this file, depending on the size of the tablet:
----- Command -----
ECHO %%JR970,0>comx
24"x36"
ECHO %%JR725,0>comx
36"x48"
ECHO %%JR580,0>comx
48"x60"
where "x" = com port number
d. Press
to go to the FILE menu and select EXIT.
e. The editor
will then ask you if you want to SAVE this file. Press the Y key.
f. Restart
AutoCAD.
